The Role:
Reporting directly to the Senior Staff Accountant, the Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance through preparation of reports and financial statements. The position will entail building strong cross-functional relationships throughout the accounting team and organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Beyond preparation of the organization’s reports and financial statements, other specific functions and duties of the position include, but are certainly not limited to:
- Prepare and file sales & use tax returns.
- Enter accounting related information into systems, reports, and spreadsheets.
- Prepare and process weekly payments including checks, transfers, wires, and ACH payments.
- Inspect general ledger for efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist in accurately coding invoices for entering into the accounting system.
- Organize and update financial records.
- Recommend ways to reduce costs and enhance revenue.
- Account reconciliation including bank accounts and investigating variances within deadlines.
- Prepare and record general journal entries.
- Complete regular general journal entries.
- Calculate allocations of expenses among properties and corporate entities, including maintenance, marketing, management fees, and credit card expenses.
- Perform month end close tasks—including but not limited to management fee calculation, accruals, record deposits and reconcile receipts to property management software, financial statement preparation, etc.
- Build relationships cross-functionally to foster collaboration both inside and outside the accounting team.
- Prepare documentation for external auditors.
- Explore and recommend opportunities for process improvement.
- Participate in annual budget preparation.
- Cross train and back up essential operating duties of team members as needed.
- Provide proactive support to operations and administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the team.
Experience & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
- 2+ years of experience as staff accountant in a multi-operational company preferred but not required.
- Understanding of US GAAP and time-sensitive deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Outstanding computer expertise and highly skilled in utilizing Microsoft Excel.
- Proficient abilities in resolving issues and managing time effectively.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to work well with a team and autonomously.
- Real estate and/or construction experience is a plus but not required.
- Sage 100 or Sage Contractor experience preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Duties performed in a standard, indoor office environment.
- Be stationary for prolonged periods of time.
- Stooping, bending, twisting, reaching and repetitive motion may be required in completion of job duties.
