Reflections on the 2013 Inside Self Storage World Expo

The ISS World Expo was the place to be earlier this month, as self storage owners from around the globe met in Las Vegas to be inspired by best business practices for this incredible industry. To kick off the event, the president of Human Capital Solutions, Sherri Elliott-Yeary led an informative opening session on how the implementation of the Affordable Care Act will affect you and your business. Following her presentation, the consecutive days were packed with educational opportunities, networking events and face to face time with industry leaders.

Attendees were offered up-to-date business strategies to keep their investments thriving. Educational seminar topics were available for those new to the industry to veteran self-storage investors. Discussions ranged from the cost of building a storage facility to how to use social media effectively in your marketing strategy. In between sessions, presenters made themselves available to chat one on one with attendees, addressing their specific questions or concerns.

Round table discussions were held on Thursday evening to provide another setting for self-storage owners to obtain one-on-one time with industry experts. Topics ranged from marketing and cost-saving strategies to finance and development. This was an excellent way to make the most out of the expo – why learn from the rest when you can learn from the best! Other events that were held included the Self-Storage Q & A, a cocktail reception, a peer-to-peer networking reception and a buyers and sellers meeting.

If getting to browse various suppliers was on your list of to-dos for the show, you were in luck! There were over 100 vendors set up in the Expo Hall this year, ready and willing to chat with you about your particular self-storage business needs. Many of these exhibitors service clients worldwide, making this the perfect opportunity to learn more about successful business strategies the world over.
